So today was the day 'Kagemusha' went out on BluRay. The transfer is breathtaking. Even on not so
large monitors it's enough to get you into stupor. Blu-ray.com was orgasmic about it, and even
that review doesn't do the full justice what Criterion people did to it. Look:
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=5596&show=review
And after watching it I just couldn't help myself and had to ask. So how do you feel about them
Criterion BluRays? Is there an unquenched thirst for them already? Or is it too soon and few of us
should just STFU about them in public and play with them without sharing with others? There are
already 15 BluRays produced by Criterion, none of them are on the Internets or Usenets. More on
the way, and even more will be coming out in the future. I mean, this IS the future, after all.
Surely, they're not your momma's dvds -- untouched discs are about 35-45 gigs in size. But they
are NOT 720p or 1080p rips posted in a.b.x264 -- they're the real thing, with menus, bonuses,
chapters, 500 subs and 300 audio tracks etc.
So they are definitely doable. And what better way to store them for safekeeping than on Usenet,
where most people don't have download limits. On the other hand, what's the point of upping a 50
gigs disc for half a day when nobody wants it, right?
So if, say, 10-15 people will voice their desire to get full untouched BDs, I'll be willing to
yank them here. Speak up, people!
