:Hello Isis,
:
:It's looking like you are abandoning posting to what were "your"
:groups -- other than just the nzb's & nfo's.
:
:You realize these groups are now going to experience major decreases
:in volume unless other posters fill in the slack (not too likely at
:this point).
Any decrease in 'volume' on these groups would be most welcome!
Please recognize what it is that contributes to a group's size:
Size has nothing to do with the Terabytes of content to which all of these
subject headers point.
Nor are the number of subject headers a factor, either.
The only thing that can be attributed to 'taking up room' on these groups are
ARTICLE headers.
Anyone running PowerPost 'out of the box' @ the default 1950 yEnc lines will be
adding ~32,000 articles to a group per DVD post.
Those of you posting at 4x (7800 lines) will only need ~8,000 articles per DVD,
a significant improvement to be sure. (You can post 4 DVDs in the same amount of
'Group Room' as the loser described above.)
You, FA, have recently raised your yEnc setting from 3800 yEnc (~16,000
articles) to 10,000 yEnc (~6,000 articles), a vast improvement! (And who do we
thank for this?) ;)
Currently, I am posting at 30,000 yEnc, so I am able to squeeze a DVD post into
~2,000 lines. That means I would have to post 15 DVD's to take up the same
amount of room as someone who has never bothered to set their yEnc line count.
I assume you are getting your data from a site like this:
http://www.binsearch.net/groupinfo.php?server=2
As I currently look at it, a.b.dvd.classic.movies has ~ 3.5 Terabytes of
content, ~50,000 Subject Headers, and nearly SIX MILLION ARTICLES!!!
Please note that a.b.dvd.criterion has nearly 2 Terabytes of content, less than
15,000 Subject Headers, and only 1.75 million articles!
That is why it doesn't take forever and a day to refresh the headers on that
group.
While you have done your part (yEnc-wise), none of the other posters have
bothered to change their settings. Why any Giganews user wouldn't post @ 12,000
yEnc must forever remain a mystery.
:I would think you'd also realize that NZB search sites rate the
:individual groups based on daily GB volume. And where the two groups
:were starting to get recognition and coverage they didn't used to
:have, that will probably change without your posts any longer.
You needn't worry about that! The two groups I recently started are doing just
fine, thank you!
:Another problem is post retrieval. Even though nzb's are generally
:very reliable, there still are instances where leechers have to d/l
:headers manually and individual parts when there are glitches. In
:these small groups that isn't a problem, with ab.dvd that's another
:story.
Well, how do you think I monitor my posts!? Try using the BinSearch links I
provide in all of my .NFO's.
:Just wanted to point out some things you might not have considered.
Now you're just being silly. Isis not considering everything? (When has that
ever been the case?) ;)
