I think the reason my be two fold. The amount of junk being posted on
the usenet seems to have increased over the last few years. Sights that
you used to be able to depend on just aren't providing quality posts.
Several regular posters that I know have abandoned the usenet because
of the trash and in some cases the lack of reciprocacity (not sure if
it is a real word?) has caused their departure.
Secondly I woud look to the dominance of social media in some many
people's lives asa a limiting factor for the time it takes to deal with
the usenet. People get tuned in to instant gratification aspect of
social media; and the usenet just doesn't have that kind of immediacy.
Occasionally I look for new sites to visit. When I do I generally find
that 90% of them that have posts are abandoned or spam filled.
Who ever manages the usenet should find a way to delist sites that
haven't been used for years. The newsgroup list is almost unmanageable
even with the search function.
