Is there free software available to convert video from the VOB files
of a DVD into something like AVI, or MKV, or the other formats
preferable for uploads and archiving? I used to have some tools on an
old XP machine that died a couple of years ago, but I'm guessing there
are better tools available now. I use "vlan" as my preferred video
player, and I recently discovered I can use it to create mp4 files
from VOB's, but the sound gets out of sync, which can be annoying to
watch. I don't know how to fix that, but suspect vlan is not the way
to go anyhow. I saw something that suggested "gimp" can process
video, but have not tried it yet. I just wondered what folks here are
using, and what new tricks and techniques are available. I like the
things I get that extract themselves when I click the PAR file, but
don't know how that is done.
