Yes, 300kbps works fine for 99% of videos. Rarely, a video conversion
does get jumpy movements and I double the video bitrate to fix.
Moreso, instead of a fixed quality conversion, I wanted to use 2-pass
conversion.
My reasoning is that when comparing the original to the conversion, if
I do not see artifacts, then the conversion with much smaller file
size is what I save and delete the original. The alternative for me
is to download, watch, delete, rather than archive conversions.
Well, my conversions look fine on my computer, meaning the video
conversions contain enough information to be watchable on my system,
but not necessarily watchable or desired by others on other systems.
Saving the original video is always better and posting the original
(best quality) is always better. Larger HD downloads and uploads tend
to overtax my internet speed and while I can watch in 1920x1200x 60Hz
the effect of HD only lasts a few seconds.
In the end, either I archive the converted file or save nothing. Like
saving a library of paperbacks, or having no library at all with
hardcover.
