I'm not sure how long you've been using Usenet, but to prevent your
feelings from getting hurt in the future, it's bestto keep in mind
that ....nobody owes you, or anyone else, anything. Neither a reply,
nor an upload of a request, nor an NZB, or anything else. Usenet is a
very informal environment, with people uploading if, when, where and
how they choose. Or not.
By and large, people in many of the popular groups are supportive of
visitors to the respective groups, and will upload, or re-upload, a
file if they happen to have one. Several regulars in the groups have
vast collections and are kind enough to share their collections with
other visitors. Most of those files were obtained here on Usenet in
years previous. Sometimes uploads are derived from television
broadcasts or from VHS/DVD's in their personal collections. But they
don't ....owe....you anything.
As to the scene/pirate uploaders that comprise the large part of
ab.teevee uploaders, I'm not privy to their organizational activities
or membership, but I can pretty much guarantee you there are no paid
professionals who are copying and illegally uploading copyrighted
programs to Usenet. In fact, they are groups the legal system would
love to shut down. So don't complain when an upload of a popular
television show just uploaded yesterday draws blanks when you try to
download it today. The lawyers for the copyright holder provided a
legal order to the Usenet services to delete it from their servers or
face legal action.
Enjoy Usenet for what it is and don't expect too much. It's a
fantastic venue to obtain many interesting pieces of material. But
just as you are not a professional, neither are the uploaders. In my
years on Usenet, there have been many uploaders who've disappeared for
any number of reasons. Most because they ran through all their
material and got tired of posting. A few left because visitors pissed
them off and they decided not to spend their time and bandwidth
posting for a bunch of ingrates. Don't be one of those who antagonize
the very supportive and generous posters in this, and other, groups.
Be thankful there are activists who work hard to keep up with the many
programs posted in teevee. They don't have to do it at all.
