Obviously I can't and don't speak for everyone downloading from
Usenet, but I have quite a number of DVD sets sitting on my shelves,
with  the shrinkwrap still infact, because I enjoyed the download so
much I wanted to support the producers and publishers by buying a hard
copy of the programming. I don't do that for every last item I pick up
here, but I've done so for a good many that I really enjoyed.

While copyright holders would prefer that we buy each and every item
before watching, I've found many that I've downloaded that were really
duds, and I'd have been plenty pissed had I forked out good money for
a real bummer. As much as I wished I had infinite resources, like most
of us, I have to target my purchases to things I want to keep and pass
on to my kids and grandkids. I've ordered disks directly from the UK,
Hong Kong, mainland China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Australia to get
hard copies of things I've liked. As my daughter says, 'if you want to
keep the stuff coming, you have to support the artists (ie,
producers). But there's a ton of stuff, as 'dd' mentioned, that I'd
never have bought because I'd never have known about it, and never had
a reason to look into it.
