Well, yes... But it wasn't always so.
About 50 years ago, if you asked for "Durex", you were assumed to mean that you wanted the clear adhesive tape that is so useful for sticking one bit of paper to another.
Before Durex brand condoms appeared [or actually were hidden undeneath the pharmacy counter], there were only 2 types of condoms; "Wet-check" lubricated and "Super-check" unlubricated.
Nowadays, all brands of condoms are openly displayed on the supermarket shelves and if you want the sticky tape, you would be more likely to ask for "Durex tape", or even just "sticky-tape".
