I sympathize with your feelings, however consider this:
My own existence, and the things that happened to my own family, are
the direct result of the events of WWII and also before that WWI.
For people like me, the ones from backgrounds shaped by these events,
there is often an interest in finding out "How the heck did we get
here, what happened?
Our parents often never would speak about it, or not enough, and often
the little details -- everyday life, etc -- are what's missing.
So we look for the pieces that are missing from the story. It's not
all about overgrown boys wanting bang-bang stuff-exploding heroic
deeds pablum.
