I replaced the old motherboard about 2 years ago after it gave 6 years
of service. It was only the on-board modem (CAT5) slot that failed and
I could have just bought a new card to fit in one of the expansion
slots... but Me being Me decided that I wanted a new motherboard.
But it has worked problem free for 2 years and is the exact same
model/type as the one it replaced so I was expecting a couple more
years out of it (at least).
I put the old motherboard in the attic never expecting to see it
again... maybe I was wrong !
Looks like I might have to dig it out and do some detective work.
My 'C:' drive went down last night so I ended up doing some swapping
of SATA leads on the motherboard end, after going to bed pretty pissed
off, I woke up today and the 'C:' drive was back.
I'm guessing that its a temporary thing and that it is just giving me
a bit of time to back stuff up from it <g>
Looks like posting stuff is Out for a while... I Never know which
drives are going to be working on which days so best get it sorted out
first.
The 'C:' drive DID make a loud 'click' sound before it went down... so
I'm taking it that the drive IS actually failing... it All adds more
to the dilemma.
