Same for me on Mac OS 10.6.8 with VLC 2.2.1.

The most outstanding feature of the video (technically I mean) is how a
certain level of quality is achieved with a rather low birate – 876
kb/s, including audio! – while dispalying 1280*720 pixels, 29.97 times
per second.
The “old” x264 seems way behind.
(On the other hand, standalone devices handling x265/HEVC are still
quite rare, if existing; I won't play this video on my TV screen.)
