"First Lesbian" ? No, but I don't recall the show ever suggesting she was.
Rather, the show seem to debate her social, political, and historical status.
Which, BTW, I thought the show did an excellent job of exploring with some
exciting and relatively new findings. Bravo!
There was debate on the issue of Courtesan versus Lesbian Poet but I don't
see any inherent contradiction in her being both. Nor did the show suggest it
could only be one way or the other. At the end of the show she remains as she
has always been: A Biographical Mystery but a Famous & Influential Artist. But
never was she supposed to be the **first** lesbian. Suggest you re-watch.
For sure, it was an excellent program & I thank the Poster vey much.
