Plot:
At war! A journey along the front line of the First World War. In eight episodes of At War,
passionate documentary makers Arnout Hauben, Mikhael Cops and Jonas Van Thielen travel along the European front line of the First World War. From the beaches in Nieuwpoort, they set off, on foot, for a 1500-kilometre-long adventure. The three friends walk the entire front line through France, Italy, Slovenia, Albania, Macedonia and Greece, eventually arriving at the legendary battlefields of Gallipoli. Along the way, Arnout talks to the local population, and he records their most surprising, moving and haunting stories, from the past and present.
The soldiers who fought on the European front, as well as the nurses, priests, even
photographers, who lived during the Great War are also movingly brought to life. Every day,
Arnout and Jonas dedicate a commemorative marker to these unsung heroes, and in doing so bring the original - and for the most part invisible - front line back to life.
