I have stayed out of this debate and definitely don't want to be
involved now but.... I have read most of the posts that banter back
and forth because I am one that likes to hear/read both sides and then
come to an educated decision of my own. My question for you memories
is exactly what you ask above.... "Why would someone do that"? I
believe from your posts that your theory is hopper does it to track
users. You believe he does this to "narc" the posters out? To turn
them(the posters) in to the "owners" of the designs posted here? That
doesn't make sense to me because hopper himself has posted things
here, wouldn't that be slitting his own throat? I do not however see
any contributions made by yourself, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I took your advice and did this search. The only 2 posters that
showed up were littlemissme and InternetChick. I also noticed that
LMM has since changed her organization, quite a simple thing to do. I
also noticed she is still here posting so I'm assuming her computer
has yet to blow up. It doesn't stand to reason with me that hopper
would have gone through all that trouble to track only a couple
posters. His changing the ini file does however seem very logical to
me. If someone comes to the US from another country and wants
services from our country we would expect them to learn our language,
yes? If on the other hand, they refused to learn it so they had no
means of communication with our providers, would the providers finally
stop trying to assist them and feel as though they were banging their
head against a brick wall? I have seen hopper take the time to help
many people (including myself), him changing the ini file helps the
new user speak the same "language" as the (help) provider, hence
making the task at hand, whatever it may be, MUCH easier for both
ends.
This is just my take on things after reading all of the posts, not
trying to convince you of a thing only giving you some food for
thought maybe?

Just curious... is there a reason that hopper and pixie may be the
same person? I personally don't believe they are, I see too many
differences in the way they express themselves and the words they use.
But even if they are... does it really matter?

I'm not certain of other versions but with my version I can change
these with a few simple clicks. As you can see my former posts had
nothing there, and now they have info there. If it's a "forced" field
in some versions what a better email addy to put than none@net.invalid
even a new user would see that it was a NON working email.
Please understand I am not trying to start an argument here. I'm only
expressing my thoughts. With all of the chaos and term oil in the
world today shouldn't we all have a quiet, peaceful place to land?
Even if it is just a group on the internet concerning embroidery. My
grammie always told me I would catch a lot more fly's with honey than
I would with vinegar! The name calling and accusations really don't
help a single soul. When I first came here I had no idea who was a
"troll" and who was safe to listen to. I took my time reading and
soaking it all in. I doubt most people do that, so the bantering just
creates even more confusion for them. If it bothers you so much that
hopper has "doctored the ini" file then take the time to create
tutorials of your own, then the new user can decide for them self
which version of what they choose to use. I myself agree with
Niemand, I seem to get large posts quicker with Newsbin so that's what
I continue to use. I did however want to be a part of this particular
community so I needed to learn the "language" spoken here (Agent). And
I do have to say it's MUCH easier to use than Newsbin when it comes to
reading posts! I'll get off my soapbox now (never meant to get on
it)! Just hoping that some of the drama might calm down and we can
all share and play nice :-D
