Eh? - is the assumption of agreement, regardless of opinion. Akin to
TIA. You are EXPECTED to agree/comply. The requester is not
particularly interested if you disagree, they are not listening.
Hopper's favourite..../grin
Aye? - is asking the question "Do you agree?".... Accepted as wanting
to know another's opinion....and a willingess to listen to the reply.
Agreement is optional and the ensuing debate should be expected.

The difference (for me) is I can't help with direct handholding if the
program is unfamiliar to me. Not all Agent's are the same and I am
hesitant to totally confuse Newb's with info that has one instruction
different to what they are looking at. They get confused.
The Agent version in that set is what I use. I can do the
this-->that-->other pointing because I "see" what they see if they are
using it too.
I can't do that for users after version 4 (??). I have observed Herb
helping those users and the pointing is totally different. Earlier
users would be lost, the layout is not the same. This is not Herb's
problem either.
I will help if I know what they are looking at. Like the Newsbin
users, I have no idea what they are looking at. They are stressing
that no one is helping them.... a/ not many know what they are looking
at and b/ it is a crap program that has been proved to be faulty.
Lose/lose.
Since my form of helping is trying to guide Newb's through each step,
as women tend to do so it's clear, I often have to stay silent. I
don't want to risk confusing them more. They don't tend to take well
to being told to go look it up and having to read it for themselves.
If I can point directly to what they have to do with the least amount
of instructions, they usually get brave and explore the program on
their own later, in their own time. Win/win.
Marsfel is a success story of this type of help. I know that when
women ask "what am I doing wrong", they are really just asking "tell
me what to do - in words of two syllables or less!"
I can't do that if I don't know what they are looking at.
That is my reason. More technical reasons are that Agent lost a bit of
its integrity with later versions, but that is for the teckheads to
fight about.
AYE??!!
/grin
