Appreciated. Very much so.
And the masses make do with what they are given.
I think this is just a case of some not understanding what is involved
in changing thread brands.
This one needs SES type hand holding!
The Hummels are colour intensive.
Remember those Godey Victorian Ladies that everyone
was asking for the colour charts? You created the colour chart, but
it was really only the points of colour change. Kind of like DST
colours, all over the place. Imagination and patience was also needed
on the Ladies' behalf to decide what colours THEY wanted them to be.
They were given colour change points, it was up to them what colour
they wanted them to be.
Unless one has a good sense of colour PLUS a good editing
program with all the thread palettes (4D/Artista or any of the Bigger
names), being able to "imagine" the colour in the correct place is a
little bit difficult... not impossible, but difficult.
Also, Mettler palette is requested. That's a big ask if Mettler is not
on your auto palette. In that the colour palette would have to be
transposed from the designer's palette, if Mettler wasn't the original
choice. This would have to be done MANUALLY as skintone is a matter of
personal choice... blue dress v purple dress.... etc.....etc.
Has anyone noticed that with a lot of Sue Box's early fairies, that if
you want a blue dressed fairy, she will also have blue cheeks??
I spent an afternoon fixing that anomaly..... sorry Sue, but I didn't
want a blue cheeked fairy. The blue would just jump out of the dress,
into the cheek and then back to the dress...../grrrrrr.....
Not everyone wants a pink dressed fairy ALL the time!
Saw it before I sewed it, thankfully.
Everything takes time, being the lesson.
There is NO AUTOMATICALLY changing the colours to suit everyone's
taste.
If this was me and I was desperate for the colours in Mettler.
I would open the design in a program that allowed me to choose Mettler
threads. I would then proceed to change (and save as I went) all the
colours to Mettler. This would take a little time, but if I wanted
Mettler, then that is what I would have to do. Print the colour chart
when I am happy with the Mettler colours I chose. Save file. DO NOT
save the file with another colour palette as the default or you will
lose it again!
It would mean choosing colours that blended using Mettler.
Not everyone knows what the two skintone colours in Mettler numbers
are. You have to see it and find it pleasing.
Asking for ANY design in ANY colour palette is a very personal choice.
The designers set what colours they choose, but after everyone in here
has changed their file extensions a million times, originality is
lost.
It would be a laborious exercise. But worth it to the one who wanted
it. Usually the one who wants it has to do it.
My colour palette is set to display Sulky colours. It's just the
default. It wouldn't matter if the file arrived in Mettler colours, it
would still default to Sulky, I would have to manually change it. Even
in this scenario, the change would be the colours that Mettler and
Sulky agree are similar colours. They aren't ALWAYS so similar....
Regardless of what anyone thinks, the big companies don't all sit down
to afternoon tea and decide to make all their colours interchangeable
with each other's brands....!!
That is why there are so many different colour versions of each set of
files. Each person (when they know how) converts them to the
colour/extension that they need. Once they have been converted to DST
they are totally screwed over for the masses in general and you have
to start again with skintones etc.
I am assuming HM uses Mettler, (am only assuming Herself has a variety
on hand to choose from). Set out the actual reels of thread in order
of sewing on the table, guided by the printout. Lined up, one will see
how they blend together. One can see at least two skin tones are
required. Be guided by one's own colour sense.
Desperation breeds action HM!

A degree of bravery is needed, tis all.
HM is not confident of Her own ability to choose.
She only needs to take a deep breath, think about what she wants, and
plunge in with the tools she has.
>What is it about Hummels that make the choice of

Nothing. Complexity is overwhelming Her.
She just needs to think outside the box.
You could choose Mettler colours for Her, but She may not like them.

Hope this helps a bit.
Thread companies do put out thread compatibility charts (all the
colours, not just for one design), but they want you to use "their"
thread, not someone elses that happens to be a similar colour.
AND, not even "black" is the same across the different palettes.
Ackerman have at least 4 whites! /smacks forehead....
Think of it like buying paint. Bristol v Berger v Taubmans etc.
There ARE very similar shades.... but exact matches are impossible,
and entirely up to the individual.
Clear as mud??!!
You "could" make a "template" guide of the Hummels based on personal
colour choices and "maybe" transcribe the colour chart basd on the
thread requested..... but you WOULD have to initially colour change
the entire set manually to give yourself a basis from which to work
from...
And once you start doing that for the masses..... your freetime is
OVER!! /grin
You remember Klompje??.... same thing happened. Had to leave because
of being overworked and underpaid!
Pixie :-)
PS.... and then there is your machine's colour displaying
abilities..../laff. Older machines have very limited colour
distinguishing capabilities.
You just knew there had to be a catch!! /grin
Mine can ONLY see Sulky colours, and not many at that. I need a good
imagination and a lot of patience when the chart/file is not what my
project's colours need to be. Any colours the machine "can't read" get
turned to grey. If it doesn't have a colour code for any of the
colours displayed, they all turn various shades of grey!! Handy! Not!!
Tis why I lineup my colours beside the machine or in the thread holder
so I don't get "lost".
