Hopper used to post a Tools package. It contained an earlier version
of Agent (of which I currently use), Winrar (same) and various other
programs to help you in your Usenet experience. None of these needed
money to make them work.
You were free to choose which elements of the package you chose to
use. And, by using these Tools, you only had to ask in this group and
help would be at hand if you experienced problems.
Also included was a comprehensive information package, humorously
explaining how to use the Tools. It was compiled by hopper and members
of this group many years ago. Not me, I got here late enough to only
be a beneficiary of the knowledge.
The only catch, if you want to call it that, was you had to be able to
read! Not all the Ladies in this group have the time for that.
Hopper was derisive of Outlook Express and the (now) Windows Live
experience. Microslop does not want you swapping software, so pretends
that the inbuilt software is giving you the ultimate in performance
when all it is doing is frustrating you to the point of giving up.
Indeed, my Husband purchased a laptop last year with the all singing,
all dancing Windows Live and found it was very much "Dead man
walking". /laff And He only uses it for email.
The people you see championing Outlook Express and Windows Live are
Usenet trolls. They spend their time roaming around Usenet
destabilising groups of impressionable people. Our resident troll has
never graduated from Outlook Express in all the years he has been
here. It's hilarious! Many Ladies took the plunge and tried Agent and
never went back to Outlook Express. The program was designed for
Usenet. To give you the best experience and YOU have all the control
over which way you want to sort it. By date, threaded, not threaded,
by author, subject, size or status. MOE and Live couldn't sort
themselves out of a wet paper bag!!
Being on Usenet takes a little education. It's not a hand holding
forum like Yahoo, nor is it instant like email.
Trying to get the Ladies to understand this ended up with hopper
taking His bat and ball and leaving the park after many years of
trying to help people.
It's a Catch 22 in here. We embroider. But to do this, we must learn
about computers. At least as much to get us what we want out of this
group.
Outlook Express and Windows Live are not how to do it.
I'm not a computer guru. But I knew enough to know that hopper knew
computers. He knew a lot.
No... He wasn't into airy fairy hand holding. If you needed Him to
hold your hand and mop your brow...then no, He wasn't the Teacher for
you.
But He helped those who would help themselves.
