i get that people are leary about signing up for passwords. However, the
first 5000 posts I made were with a plain header and no passwords. They
simply pointed to abook.ws in the header. But that was more for forum
users, so they know it's an abook.ws upload and they can be certain it's
not just some crap.

At present signing up isn't exactly an easy task anyway, since we're only
looking for people that bring something to the site.

All that said, there are plenty of Usenet forums around, especially in
Germany and the Netherlands, but there's an english all purpose forum as
well at nzbcace.co.uk.

Forums are just a different approach to Usenet. Instead of pulling
headers and sifting through groups, you get curated forums. On abook.ws
for example, all posts have a cover, an excerpt, quality information and
so on. And if you want the book, you click on "Thank you" and get the
search code for the particular book and with that search code users then
head over to a search engine like nzbindex.nl, binsearch.info or
nzbking.com. That may sound weird to 20 year Usenet veterans, but it very
much makes sense to those who grew up with nzb files. And it also makes
it easier for people who never had any contact with Usenet before.

Many of the passworded rar posts that go in this group, where people
always ask where they can get the password, they all originate from the
forums with the url in the header. And I get that it's annoying, when
you're used to plain text headers and mp3 files, but if it would be
important, those forums would all just be a throwaway email address away.

Anyway, got more long winded than i intended, but the point is, there's
really no reason not to use the sites that get mentioned with passworded
uploads in this group. Those are not "take 48 surveys to get the
password" sites, where you never get the password and instead catch 48
different viruses.
