HEPL! Actually, my first thought upon seeing the big hole was of
Georges Bataille's "Solar Anus"... so it all sort of makes sense.

I don't think the term "skips" is common hereabouts. I love using
re-usind refuse myself, but it has to pass the sniff test. My best find
was a coil of copper tubing that I use as a bin for firewood.
In fact my apartment is mainly furnished w/ rectified rubbish.
