BETTY CROCKER
Betty Crocker, what is a nice lady like you doing
in a rotten place like the pinnacle of power?
When the deficits grow and the banks start to fail,
maybe Betty will help us out, by sponsoring a bake sale
Betty Crocker, symbolized by a giant Spoon
Do you suppose that Reality
could ever break Betty's balloon?
During the Great War, Betty was a pin-up girl,
rallying the boys with moral support, from afar
Supporting our troops with a bumper sticker on her car
Where was Betty, during the covered-up killings?
Betty was in the kitchen, baking cookies for the kiddies
In the kitchen, strumming on the old banjo with old Strom Thurmond
listening to the radio hour's old-time, gospel religious sermons
Betty was busy playing Stella
to every Stanley Kowalski of Wall Street,
baking them all a special treat
Her man might be just a little dumb,
and who could blow us all to Kingdom come,
but Betty, herself, first and foremost, was wholesome
which made her mostly the perfect stage-prop
for a politician's carefully planned photo-op
Betty was busy, seeing the USA in a Chevrolet
She was very, very shocked by marriage for gays
Of this, in kindly manner, she would complain,
but never of the shock-and-awe campaigns
While the men were staging a coup,
she was busy clipping the coupons
Betty Crocker, in the midst of the warfare,
can't you look past the cookware?
Can't you notice when your husband is crooked?
Mrs. Crocker, can't you get it through your head,
when every night, you share his bed?
While you clean the pots,
the courts are stuffed with crackpots-
Mrs. Crocker, what they taught you in Church
was such an awful crock
Betty's husband is Al Capone
But Betty is as obedient
as a dog begging for a bone
with a blind eye for truths that she would rather not know,
and a big mixing bowl, full of cookie dough
Obedient, knowing her place, in bed
Obediently, Biblically opposing the liberals
cleaning house, oblivious to the obvious
load of dirty laundry
and a big pile of dirty dishes in the sink
and a long list of things that she dares not to think
Betty Crocker never gets wise
because she lives in unconscious compromise
Not in my family. Not in my house. No.
Betty Crocker is a little crazy
She is slightly off her rocker
She is smilingly insane
You can see that she hates no one
She just regards them with polite disdain
It is not that she thinks that the cruelty is OK
It is just in her style, to look the other way
She really would like for the wounds to heal
But to her, the injustices are no big deal
Had she not been chained by a wedding ring,
she might have been capable of better things
Her husband is the king of dirty tricks
But her? She's just a package of cake mix
