Driving a car, using the internet, dealing with people: Everyone
should always be thinking SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY. This means in 2010
that when you see an accident/crime you quickly find the nearest
rational-looking person (better still couple) and explain that you
want to help someone but you need a witness. Even this procedure
carries its own risks but in the cases related by Doc and Ulysses you
should do SOM<ETHING.

In practice, in the case of Doc's friend's story, I would probably
have stopped the car without thinking. The boy might have called rape
and that would be the next 20 years taken from me. That is why we
should all train ourselves and our children to think of SAFETY -
especially as we can't be sure that our action is really needed.

As a slightly parallel subject, have you ever noticed how when someone
dies trying to rescue their dog/child/other from drowning the one
being rescued survives?
