Solomon's Private File #26
These stories about Stephen and Solomon take place starting in
1950's. Stephen wrote about his life in letters to a penpal, and then
in a secure blog, in case he lost his memory again, in the master
computer in his school for gifted students, which he started attending
in 2016 in a new incarnation, until his death. Now his son Solomon is
attending the same school, and is writing in his own secure blog for
his future incarnations.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
Solomon is 14 in this story, in the Spring of 2040.
Solomon's Private File #26 "No-Mind"
START Page
I'm 14 now. I don't feel older. Maybe I should go feel Pete. He's
really older. Just reaffirming my odd sense of humor. Yep, I still have
it.
There was in incident in our FBI office. I was working there, when I
noticed a commotion in another office. An interviewee was objecting
loudly to being interviewed by a little girl. I stood in her doorway,
leaning casually on the frame. I said, "Hello. Somebody forgot to use
his indoor voice here?" He turned around and stared at me. I gave him a
little smile. He said, "I was sent here for a psychological evaluation,
and I find a child here!" I said, "Good work! But you weren't asked to
find anybody in particular. One more thing you might consider. Your
evaluation started when you walked in the door." That woke him up. All
kinds of thoughts showed on his face. He nodded acceptance, and turned
to face the girl, and said, "I apologize. I'm ready to proceed." After
that was done, he was approved. Then the whole office asked to see me.
They wanted to know how I did that, with so few words that worked
exactly right. I said, "The Stephen defense. Oh, you haven't heard of
it? I just did what I thought I should do for that particular person in
that particular circumstance." One said, "But how did you know?" I
said, "No-mind flow. All of you know more than you know you know. If
you let it come to you when you need it, and trust yourself, you'll
have it. Remember, you wouldn't be here if you weren't fully capable.
If you really want to know what happened and how, analyze it, step by
step, from both directions, including my posture and expression. What
worked then and for him, might not work under other conditions. Each
situation is unique." I gave them a smile, and went back into my
office.
They did analyze it, and discovered that there was a lot going on
that they didn't realize at first. They discovered that my whole action
was carefully planned, even the smallest part of it. There were some
wows. From the secretaries, too. At the end of the day, one of the
secretaries asked me, "What is no-mind?" I said "Chimpanzees are many
times stronger and faster than humans, even though they have basically
the same physiology. They have less developed minds that don't
interfere with that. Our constant decision making influences and slows
down all we do, but being normal for us, we don't notice that. Throw a
punch at me. Yes, for real, to hit me. You won't, so don't worry about
it." It was a good punch. I twisted away from it at the last second. I
said, "That wasn't a reflex, which is a one size fits all to a
stimulus, or I would have blocked and hit you back. If I had taken time
to think, I would have been hit. The no-mind is the middle ground
between the two states. Through a lot of practice, my being knows what
I'm physically capable of, and will do the right thing that I would
have decided on, without me having to think about it. I didn't want to
hurt you, even with a block, which was already a part of my being
before you made the move. So I didn't, but it didn't require a
conscious choice I didn't have time to make. Using the no-mind state is
more common than most people are aware of, but it can be applied to
much more than a fight, where it is more noticeable. Training and
meditation helps refine the ability."
She said, "Thank you. How does one go about learning it?" I said,
"It's most useful in emergencies. Being in a fight is the most urgent
of those, so most people learn the no-mind through martial arts
practice. Some learn it through the study and practice of Zen. Which of
those two is more difficult, depends on the individual. Less efficient
partial ways you could learn it are through ballet, yoga, and even
religion, and the serious study of some sports, such as gymnastics. The
key thing is doing something that requires such concentration and
physical control, that to think while you are doing it would reduce
your ability to do it. Then you are in at least a partial no-mind
state." She said, "Oh, I understand it better. Thank you again." I
said, "You're welcome."
In a meeting with Ivanna and Pete, Ivanna said, "We heard about the
no-mind incident. Well done!" Pete said, "Master Teacher, the Second."
I said, "Wouldn't that be, Junior?" He said, "If you want to be picky."
I said, "Doing that thing at the office was a whole lot easier than
explaining it!" They had to smile. I said, "And these meetings are more
for you than for me." That got their attention. He said, "Yes, I have
to admit it. We are learning from you. No-mind state is part of our
education and training, but we didn't know it could be used so well for
what you did. It also helps explain how your father did a lot of what
he did." I said, "If you want to pick my brain, you could at least use
a tissue!" There were odd expressions with their chuckles. Ivanna said,
"We are also learning that there is more you express in your humor than
the humor part of it." I said, "People often do that unconsciously. I
er, like to know what I'm doing." Pete said, "So we've noticed." I gave
him a mean face, and they laughed.
Pete said, "There is something we'd like your help with. There is a
far away people with kind of a problem we don't want them to have.
Receive a push?" I nodded, and he sent the info to me." I said, "Need a
BIG tissue for that!" It was about the octopus people and the point
matter transmitter they had taken away from a deranged inventor. Their
Guardians couldn't figure it out, and neither could our people. I took
a look at it, and said, "Interesting! Needs lots of power. I see why
they need all those arms to control the remote viewer. VERY hard to
stabilize the image across any reasonable distance. And it's unsafe.
Any little malfunction could destroy the world it's on." He said,
"That's more than we know already. Care to explain how?" I said, "Not
really." He grinned. I said, "Oh, alright. Got all Dad's math. Even
what he wasn't intending to give me. My PK is better than anybody we
know about. My IQ is higher than you know about, now. Happy?" They
said, "Yes." I said, "Requested action?" He said, "They shouldn't have
it. We don't need it either, now that you've scanned it." I said, "Best
course of action is a natural disaster, but it would cause too much
damage and hurt people. Next time they turn it on, which should be
soon, it's going to overheat in a safe controlled way. The most
important parts are going to melt, and some less important parts are
going to be damaged beyond recovery or examination. They did make some
replacement parts, but they won't work, and the engineering drawings
for them will be unnoticeably changed so they can't make new ones that
work. Might cause them to tie their tentacles in knots, but better than
their whole world blowing up, and really disarming them." They caught
the pun, and had an assortment of expressions and feelings.
I said, "I was right about taking out the trash." They had to laugh.
Ivanna said, "You haven't given Galya the Guardian gear." I said, "Yes.
In the usual training, she would have it a little before her current
level, but where she is now, is much in advance of the regular
schedule. Can hurry skill, but not control. I don't want to distract
her with irrelevant toys, giving them to her one at a time. She'll get
them all at once, when she's ready, and she'll need less training on
them then, too. Unless you want to kick me off the job." She said, "No.
We just wanted to know your reasoning." I said, "In a little less than
two years, George is going to be your assistant." She said, "Oh?" I
said, "He feels right for it. We'll make it happen." She nodded
acceptance. I said, "But loan him out to Scientology, often." She
grinned, and said, "That's going to be interesting, them having an S
Kid." I said, "Exactly! For extras, going to make him WANT to stay here
and teach." Pete laughed, and said, "Were YOU Machiavelli?" I said,
"More fun not telling either way." He growled. I said, "There's the
proof." They laughed.
Galya was ready for the next level. I said, "I see you have the
constant environmental image going." She said, "Right. In a partition.
But how can you see it?" I said, "When you advance some more, you might
see it in others. As far as I know, only S Kids can see other's 4th
images clearly, but maybe double Adept kids, too." She said, "Wow!" I
said, "I agree. The ball on your bed. Put it on the ground in front of
us." She reached into her mental image of her bedroom, and grabbed the
ball, and pulled, and it dropped onto the ground. I said, "Not put.
Why?" She said, "It was from a mental picture. I didn't want that thing
in my brain. I let go, and there it came out into the air." I said,
"You know we do better. Here's how. Make your mental picture external.
Visualize it in the air in front of you. Pick up the ball through your
constant environmental image, and push it into your external image of
your bedroom, and put the ball on the bed." She exclaimed, "It worked!"
We hugged and kissed.
I said, "With two external mental pictures, you can move an object
from one to another. People, too. Some Adepts, depending on their level
of ability, can sometimes see the external images, faintly, you use for
that. So, until you can make that process happen so fast they can't see
it, you shouldn't do it in front of those who might detect it, such as
foreign Guardians we haven't trained in the 4th." She said, "Right.
There is much more than I thought to this. More than just doing it." I
said, "And you aren't the only one who's realizing that now." We
grinned at each other. I said, "Maybe I should say why." She said, "Oh
yes, please say why." I said, "We are of the first generation who are
growing up as children of our Guardians. We, because of this, think
like Guardians need to, much earlier than they did. We see all around
us what Guardians do, and why, from our earliest memories. They didn't.
So, we have to be different. In a nice way, of course." She said "Oh,
of course!" I said, "Your mother knows you're just playing along with
me." We laughed.
I said, "You make an imaginary hand to grab objects from 4th
pictures, but that's just for personal convenience. You know very well
how a hand looks and works. You can make your will take any shape in
the 4th, such as a wall. I've made one here visible. Touch it." Her
hand wouldn't go through it. I said, "Again." It did go through, but
not her sleeve. I said, "It can be set to have any properties you want
it to, such as letting in a hand, but not a sleeve." I made the wall
vanish. I ported a rock in. I said, "What happens if you make a wall
through an object like that rock, and then make the wall impenetrable
to rocks?" It split in half. She said, "Wow!" I said, "Right! In our
perspective, the power of the 4th, as we can use it in our 3D universe,
is practically limitless, because it uses no 3rd energy, nothing of us,
to do the work. And scale is irrelevant. I could do what I did to the
rock, to the entire Earth, with just as little effort. And so can you."
She couldn't even make the wow. I nodded. I said, "Here's what we
usually use to demonstrate our power to manipulate objects with our
minds, to regular people." I picked up a rock half, and closed my 4th
hand around it and ground it to dust, and let it dribble to the ground.
I said, "While all this is useful, what we really like is the shield.
We've worked out a lot of possible presets for the shield. Ready for
another crystal?" She was, and I gave it to her. She said, "Oh,
disguises, too!" I said, "Convenient. Incognito, and protected at the
same time. You can change the settings to be however you like. You
aren't restricted to a pattern, even when you're using it. Note the
cushioning shield. Useful for playing aerial tag, when you forget where
the ground is." She showed some embarrassment to my grin. I said, "It's
really great for keeping the rain off of you." She said, "I like that!"
I said, "Makes a good space suit, too. Experts in the shield usually
have it on all the time, but mostly inactive, with reflex triggers for
some dangers. If your PK and object sense field detects a bullet coming
at you, it can activate the shield in front of it, and stop the bullet
in time to save you a need to do some healing." She said, "Very useful.
Could be a life saver." I said, "There is more info in the crystal.
Review it and practice. When you can do all that almost unconsciously,
and by reflex, come see me for more about the 4th. Oh yes, there's
more!"
She came to me for the next lesson, outside my family's house in
Arizona, and dropped her jaw in surprise. I was weaving a Navajo
blanket with only yarn and my mind. When I turned to her, the weaving
didn't stop. I said, "Almost anything you can do with your body, you
can do with 4th controls. Everything we make machines for, can mostly
be done better with the 4th. We can even make entire cities of 4th
states. Our only limit is imagination and desire. Oh, and a little bit
of room for the result. Like all automation, the result is more even
and accurate than our body can do it. A hallmark of the hand made, is
its imperfections."
I said, "I have a gift for you, but for you to have it, you'll have
to find it. Here is an exact duplicate of it." It was a sculpture of
Moses and the Ten Commandments, out of naturally colored diamond. I
said, "It's somewhere in North Africa, but you can't personally go
there. No help from anybody else. When you have it, we can do more with
the 4th. Good luck." I turned back to my weaving. She just stood there
behind me for a while. Then said, "No help from anybody else, means I
can get help from you." I said, "Venture some ideas you have for the
task, and we can discuss them. By the way, finding things like this is
something we do a lot of, all over the galaxy. Sometimes that literally
saves lives." I could feel her nod. She studied the duplicate
carefully. I said, "Good. When there is time, the first step in any
mission, is research." She said, "It's diamond, and not natural.
Pretty, too." I said, "Thanks." She said, "North Africa is a really big
place." I said, "All in reality is relative. A flea is a big thing in
an electron microscope." She yelled, "Scanning!" Then she grabbed my
shoulder and turned me around, and said, "Your weaving! You meant for
me to make the connection!" We hugged and kissed in celebration.
She said in my arms, "I knew you were a good teacher, but now I know
you're a great teacher! If you had just told me, it wouldn't have been
as important to me, as the way you did it. Now it's exciting! Wow!" I
said, "Mind if I take a minute to give a lesson to the adults?" She
grinned and poked me. I said, "The way to really capture the attention
of a supergenius, is to make the lesson a cross subject puzzle that
takes some effort to solve, but causes a lot of varied interest after
solving it." She said, "Absolutely!" Pete said in the air, "Noted, with
admiration."
I said to Galya, "So, what's the next step?" She said, "Since time
isn't critical, practice is next. How I would do the scan. An automated
program for PK and the object sense, set to find an object." I said,
"Strangely enough, there happens to be a buried copper coin somewhere
around here." She said, "And strangely enough, there is one in your
pocket." She walked around, and said, "Joining scan lines needs another
program. Adjusting the resolution, too. Found it!" I said "Wait. You
won't be able to go to Africa to dig Moses up. So, for relevant
said, "PK is useful. Tell me the other ways you could have retrieved
it." She said, "This is a 4th lesson, so it must involve that. I could
have reached through a 4th picture of the ground and dug it up." I
pointedly fingered my sleeve. She laughed, and said, "You are a real
sneaky devil! You are planning this series as a whole thing!" I said,
"Well, duh! It's called a curriculum." She laughed some more. So did
Pete. She said, "I could set my 4th hand to only be real to the object
I want, and by pulling it to me, I port it out of the ground. Oh! I can
use the 4th to scan with that way! Wow!"" I grinned for her. I said,
"Want a map?" She said, "Yes! Thanks." I ported a map of North Africa
to the ground in front of her. She willed the map active, and in two
minutes, her gift was in her hand. We hugged and kissed in celebration.
I said, "You could have used dowsing, too, a little less
conveniently. Now for something else." I showed her flicker porting.
She had a wow for that. I said, "Tell me how I did it." She thought a
bit, and said, "You memorized areas of the ground, and assigned a
mnemonic to each one, with a porting action." I said, "Rule on a
mission, do that continuously. It could save your life someday. With
practice it will become automatic, and you won't have to think about
doing it. Actually, practically ALL use of the 4th will be that way for
you, like an extension of your direct will, and respond just as fast,
so fast you won't even be aware of all the steps involved. That's when
you will have really mastered it." She said, "Wow! That's going to take
a long time." I said with a grin, "No it won't." She grinned, and
practiced flicker porting, and did well. I said, "Here is a crystal
with more of the 4th, including tips on scanning, and remote viewing.
Careful, or you could strain your cheeks." She laughed. We kissed and
hugged with love.
In the usual education meeting, Pete said, "I see something. By the
time you give her the gear, she won't need it." I said, "That's the
goal for all my advanced students, because they can do it. Bad to be
dependent on externals when you don't need to. Regular students should
keep to the usual schedule in that." He said, "I see something else,
and that's not from this life. Your father was raised in security, so
it came naturally to him. He couldn't not think that way all the time.
In this life you were not. It had to come from somewhere, because you
are REALLY into security." I said with a mysterious half smile, "So?"
He growled. Ivanna laughed. I said, "I take my responsibilities VERY
seriously. I have to, I love my students so much. So, I've read all I
could find on what can help keep my students safe. I even take out the
trash well." He groaned. We all hugged and kissed with love.
In bed with George, after a round of mutual nut licking to orgasms,
he said, "Are you gay?" I said, "I don't know. Do you really know if
you are gay?" He said, "I see what you mean. You're right. My love and
respect for you, combined with our sexplay, made it obvious to me in
the beginning. Now, I'm not so sure. I think I don't have any sexual
attractions yet." I said "S Kids get that later than usual, because of
the changes to not have body hair. I'm 14, and I still don't know. If
it follows Dad's experience, I'll have it before I'm 15. I don't
actually care. I'm having a lot of fun as I am now." He said, "Me,
too." We hugged and kissed some more, into loving sleep.
