I would add the use of 'in the clear' names for shows and series, even
in messages, significantly helps organizations find and demand takedown
under DMCA or similar laws in other countries.
Most organizations relying on DMCA use automated Usenet crawlers to
find copyrighted material and rely primarily on 'in the clear' names
for search key words. The software they use often includes a function
for automatically issue a DMCA takedown demand.
Finding posts with obfuscated names generally requires human
intervention, with a corresponding increase in expense. Most
organizations appear to be ignoring posts with obfuscated names,
probably to due to the drastically greater cost of pursuing 100%
takedown.
For those who bemoan the current state of affairs: The only constant
in life is change.
