Thanks so much for all these HEVC posts. Your rationale makes perfect sense.
I'm grabbing almost all of what you're posting, parlty because your posts are
coming along at exactly the right time. I've been leeping SD encodes because
originally HD was so very much larger, and often not even available. But here's
a comparison.
Parks and Recreation Season 1:
Old SD encode 2.8GB
Recent 1080p AVC encode 23.8GB
Your 1080p HEVC encode 3.7GB
(And if I compared HEVC 720p to SD, the HEVC would be the smaller files.)
Now that people have experience with tuning HEVC and you're able to get just as
good an image, AND it takes maybe ten percent of the old file size, I'm updating
old stuff and keeping new stuff. I see some of the release groups moving to
HEVC, and man is that a welcome change in the age of ISP data caps.
I personally generally don't save recordings marred by network advertising
logos, but the large majority of yours are logo free, and many even retain the
subtitles. Superb stuff.
Thanks again for all the postings. I've spread the word and I know you've got
fans!
