A rap veteran from the Magnolia Projects in the New Orleans
Uptown region, Juvenile began his career in the rap trio
3Grand. In 1995, he went solo and eventually got involved in
a local dance music scene that was known as "bounce." He
recorded a song called "Bounce For the Juvenile" with a
local artist called DJ Jimi. It was considered the first
bounce song and would earn him a four year deal with Warlock
Records.
Real success came after Juvenile crossed paths with Cash
Money label owners Ronald "Suga Slim" and and and Brian
"Baby" Williams. His first release with Cash Money Records,
Solja Rag, quickly became an underground hit by selling over
200,000 copies. The album's success lead to Juvenile's new
group The Hot Boyz to release their first album, Get It How
You Live, in October of 1997. It sold over 400,000 albums.
With 6 million units Soundscanned to date, the
multi-talented Juvenile is currently shooting a film loosely
based on his life of growing up in the streets.
Playaz Of Da Game features the song that started it all,
"Bounce For The Juvenile," as well as "Jivin," "A Little
Sumtn' in Sumtn'," and "New Orleans Bounce." Six tracks on
the album include DJ Jimi, the local New Orleans artist with
whom Juvenile began his career.
