/_____\ Mix Oscillations was the first Celluloid Mata release I came
across, and as the Mix in the title suggests it was a remix release. With
mix releases it isn't always possible to get a feel for the true sound of
the artist if you do not know them. Regardless I was curious and believed
I had some idea what to expect from Celluloid Mata, so I was happy to
pick up the Invasion Of album when I came across it. Invasion Of being
the third album from this French band on the French label Noise Museum,
featuring 13 tracks and 52 minutes of music.
Invasion Of starts well with Log Boot, warm, clear bass sounds - a
rolling, comfortable melody, with a shimmering edge of pronounced
electronic. Log Boot comes across as simple in structure but is dynamic
and strong in sound. In tone Everlasting Rail starts with a similar
sound - round bass beats, but with a cylindrical , metallic effect. The
edge is elongated, forming a regular percussive pattern of stick driven
beats. After 2 minutes an additional layer is added in the form of
growing melody - burbling with potential.
Rhizome is more aggressive in tone, bass swirls in the background of
steady, sharp beats. Creating a heavy atmosphere Rhizome leads us on,
layering into a more complex form. Unfulfilled we follow a slow fade to
the Cyborg Colony - pace accelerates, with the hard beats solid and more
blunt in their form. Rhythms build in a crumbling sequence of layers,
with suggestion of technoid influence Cyborg Colony is the first full
realisation of that. Then it strips down into a snappish, fractured
conclusion.
Following is Synd Altered Rains Imago which recalls the sound of Log
Boot, and in some ways mixes that with the sound of Rhizome. rolling
structures of bass provide cylinders of rhythm, while zig-zags of
electronics weave amongst the triggered trap-beats. Overall a thundering
technoid construct with a rich definition. Shore has an open, hollow
density - initial sounds wide spaced with bouncing round beats. Melody
rises from the layers, focusing the elements of the track. Waves of sound
that envelop, layers stripping to an almost droning format. F.Price Venus
contrasts to Shore, and the rest of the album it seems, with its lighter
plinking tones. F.Price Venus focuses on chimes and plinks mixing with
the constancy of a plodding beat.
With a beat/squeal that spirals inwards we have Convex, that plays for a
bit before having a rough squelching beat thrown in. The two levels
carrying on regardless - blunt and crunching rhythms against shrill and
wandering melodies. In the end it seems the rhythms win out and celebrate
to conclusion, even carrying over into Exit Liquid. But Exit Liquid is
leaner and more practiced - pistons, triggers and cylinders - an array of
beat sounds to mix with the harder beat rhythm. No subtlety is retained
it seems with this clear demonstration of technoid ability.
With Celluloid Mata established we have Contact.Invade, trundling loops
of sound and the suggestion of a vocal sound. But the invasion is short
and gives way to the anomaly of Cocktail Hours (Synd Synthesis Version) -
which in some ways I love for its novelty. But even with the breathy,
anxious/excited girl vocals this is not disposable with a solid
Celluloid. Dynamic and close forms offer a cross-hatched layering and
another example of the potential diversity Celluloid Mata has.
Prose Lan is a rumbling and wavering track, more about the suggestion of
sound. But conclusion comes with Astrogrrl and its big acid squelching
sound, in some ways a sound reminiscent of the Flatbeat. Though pacing
and construction are mid and steady, layering increasingly. Astrogrrl has
a raw edge but a constant grinning determination.

An excellent ingelligent noise album by these French experimentalists on
the growing Noise Museum label. In my opinion this blows anything on
Ant-Zen out of the water. Listen for yourself.

ATTENTiON: There is currently a 0day group operating under the name "AmoK"!
These individuals (mostly re-releasing cracks for the "webscene") are
in NO WAY releated with AMOK and we expect 0day staff to nuke their
releases as "fake" wherever uploaded!
There are a few other projects out wearing our proud name:
http://www.amok-club.de - A club in Munich/Germany dedicated to our genre
http://amokreviews.cjb.net - A records review in German language
MORAL DiSCLAiMER: We are very aware of the fact that our releases
contibute to the growing sale losses of record companies.
Unfortunately our style primarily targets small, independent labels
that need sales to survive.
"Zoth Ommog" is writing red turnovers; as do many other small labels
dedicated to Electro/Industrial/Goth.
We highly encourage you to buy this album if you like the rip:
With average sales of 1ooo-7ooo presses/album worldwide, neither
artists nor labels get "rich" in this genre.
Buy buying the albums you like you disperse the guilt we have by
releasing this music- Enjoy the music and be fair with the artists!
YOUR support is required to keep them financially alive and producing!
