I thought flac was lossless and did not have a quality setting. That is,
you can set the sample rate but not the quality in the same way as you
can for, say, mp3 or aac etc. Flac does use a compression number but that
does not affect the quality, but the amount of lossless compression -
which affects how much work the decoding player has to do, of course
(modern computers have sufficient processing power to deal with it but
some portable players may struggle with some higher settings). My
dealings with EAC ripped CDs to CD quality sample rates (44.1kHz) with no
problems. As the source was CD, I did not experiment with higher sample
rates, believing that you could not better the original.
I'm not sure I have helped ;-}
