Very crowded at times.
reportedly 2,251 B-29s stopped at Iwo for fuel or repair or as a final
stop with too much damage to continue . 36 of those while combat for the
island was still in progress.
the first of those landed with one end of the too small runway was in
US hands while the other end was Japanese .
