Yes, this was new to me as well.
My reading of the Museum catalogue is that the Texan was modified as
the T-6D during the Korean War and used for airborne Forward Air
Control, in which role it became known as the Mosquito.
The Texan was chosen as it could operate from small, rough forward
airstrips and was easy to maintain. It was also faster and more rugged
than the light aircraft the FACs previously used.
