Thanks to lobbying by top-dollar consultants and lengthy legal battles, John

now the most tightly controlled airport in the U.S. when it comes to noise.

For awhile, the deactivated Marine Corps Air Station at El Toro was under
consideration after it closed in 1999. Most of it has since been demolished,
including the runways.  The last plane flew out of there in 2007.
