The pilot was a sales rep giving a aerial demonstration that included high-G
maneuvers in a plane not designed for them. 8.3 G's and 27 kts over VNE were
more than the wings could bear.

I can't remember which air show it was, it was over 30 years ago, but I
remember seeing the full incident on TV.   The chilling part for me, was the
pilot's girlfriend was in the booth, giving the play-by-play description of
the aerobatic routine.

When the wings came off, her voice changed from confident to plaintive and
fearful.    She immediately said "Oh no.." and the voice she used pretty
much confirmed that she was going to see her partner die within a few
seconds.

If a high resolution copy comes along, watch it at least once, it's
heartbreaking.
