Seems like a simple enough question. The answer is harder - maybe it
does.
Set 012b is one of those perpetually missing sets. Whatever source one
finds for the series always seems to lack that particular set. Except
for one, that is.
I did come across an archive purporting to contain 012b. What I found
was a set that didn't really seem to fit the style of the series and
appeared at first glance to be a duplicate of LS Land 02 set 18.
A close one-on-one comparison of the corresponding images from the two
sets revealed that the set purporting to be LS Extension set 012b was
not an exact duplicate of the LS Land set. The images had been re-
logoed and re-issued. Sometimes the logos missed being in the same spot
by a few pixels and therefore would "bounce back and forth" as the two
images were rapidly switched.
Being satisfied the images were legitimate LS issues, and unique at
that, I turned to the file dates for some answers. I also grabbed an
old LS Extension preview page for possible help.
The earliest page I could get was from Oct, 2003. The page layout has
remained unchanged since, with the earliest issues at the bottom and the
more recent issues at top. The sets seemed to have been issued starting
with 001a and included only the 'a' sets up to 022a, then issuing of the
'b' sets ensued. This early preview page was unique in recording the
dates of release.
Sets 001a through 020a were released simultaneously on August 12, 2003.
Then every week or so, another set was added to the site. The last
recorded release was set 009b on September 26, 2003, with set 010b
slated for release on October 3.
Compare those dates with the file dates on my purported set 012b which
are all February 3, 2004.
I'm attaching an index I made from the site preview page. Quite a large
number of thumbnails had to be made to complete the series so I made one
also of the purported set 012b. Please check this thumb against the
style of the rest of the sets, also against LS Land 02 set 18. Check
file dates and decide if this set may be legit. I'm interested in
anyone's input on this.
I can post this LS re-issue if requested. (Or was it LS Land 02 set 18
that was re-issued?) Good questions - no answers.
