Since there frequently seem to pop up questions about searches, usenet services,
etc... I thought I would post my own little guide. If anyone else has more
suggestions please add.
I've found that even though it costs more, it pays to have more than one
service, because they don't all cover the same things. So I have Giganews as my
main source and Astraweb and Usenet as secondary sources. And for searching,
newsleechers Supersearch usually does a very good job which I will occasionally
supplement with nzbking. Also I would recommend rarefilm.net. You will need to
subscribe to Nitroflare (you can do it for free, but it is very slow and
limited) to be able to download films, but he has a great
collection of rare old and foreign films. (There are a few others:
http://www.myduckisdead.org/ which has lots of cheezy horror and exploitation
films, http://worldscinema.org/ which has lots of rare art films and
experimental films and http://rarelust.com/ which unlike the others will require
a subscription to fileboom and which has lots of 60s/70s films, eurospy,
comedies, etc... wipfilms.net has lots of horror/thriller/exploitation. He has
his own download service, but if you're patient and willing to wait and watch
porn while you wait you can download everything from there for free. Also an old
great one which disappeared, rarefilmm.com, has just reappeared and is the
process of rebuilding the films available.
Then a good torrent client is helpful, there are lots of film torrents, although
better for recent films than old ones. (Use a proxy server if you're downloading
torrents though)
Also it never hurts to just go to google and search. There are a lot of public
domain films on youtube, vimeo, dailymotion. (and it doesn't hurt to do a
separate search on archive.org, which for some reason don't always show up in a
google search, likewise youtube, vimeo, dailymotion. Sometimes you can find things
in a direct search on those sites which won't show up in google). There are lots
of online places that let you download from youtube, etc (seach for download
from youtube) as well as lots of programs both free and paid. Any Video
Converter which I use to manipulate videos, also has a very good downloader.
Also a lot of movies uploaded on various other groups have encrypted names or
passworded rars trying to get you to pay for them. Search for "Find Movies and
Non-Passworded Stuff Easier" for some pointers on how to deal with those.
As I said, if anyone knows any other searches, please share.
