I see your point FOR portable USB drives against DVD/Blu-Ray Back-Up.
I have just gone through losing loads of data when backing up my old
DVD's to Blu-Ray... I had a LOT of read errors from the DVD's that my
archives where on... not forgetting that a single series of a set
might be spread over maybe 4 archive DVD's ! This means that a single
DVD fail could result in losing a BIG series that isnt out there
anymore.
coasters and so... gave up on burning anything for quite a while.
I am now coming around to the idea of backing up to portable USB
drives, or even plain hard drives that I can 'swap out' inside the PC,
but like I said earlier... I would have to have a back-up of the
back-ups. (my choice, but would make me feel better about it).
Storage Weight, Cost, Bulk !
Weight... not an issue, Bulk... portable USB HDD's would save on the
area taken up by back-ups.
Not to mention that a 1TB hard drive can be plugged in and ALL the
contents are then instantly available, instead of copying each
DVD/Blu-Ray back to the hard drive in the PC ONE-BY-ONE... Which takes
Hours !
I think I have been converted to your way of thinking (as long as I
have a back-up of my back-up) :)
