=====================================================
The first Usenet group I ever joined was
'alt.binaries.warez.ibm-pc.old', thats where I started using the name
'Spike' it was one of the regulars that suggested the '|--Spike=-'
'design' to keep it personal. I was a member of that group for many
years, then I had a fallout with NTL and made the mistake of taking on
an 18 month contract with BT and soon found out that they didn't even
carry newsgroups. Not knowing about paid for news servers or how it
all works... I ended up taking a 'forced' 18 month break from Usenet
because I was stuck with BT.
When I eventually got back on Usenet and tried re-connecting with the
'old' regulars, I was told that most of them had gone 'underground'
for one reason or another.
These were people that knew everything about anything to do with
computers/warez/loopholes in the law and how to stay protected against
'the system' yet they had one by one disappeared in the space of 18
months and have not been heard from since.
I often wonder where they are now.
