I don't know of a way to tell how the file was originally split but
the parity files included were generated by MultiPar. It's calling
itself the replacement for QuickPar which is no longer under
developments.
Par2 is fine for UseNet but Par3 is offering some advantages for local
archiving that can be useful. Either take a lot of the risk out of DVD
storage.
