How come no software came with it??
The owner would have HAD to have had it to update it??
They kept it??
It's not just about the software, you have to have the registered Hasp
driver to drive the software (loaded with the registered software). It
will not work otherwise.
I don't have the SE.... it looks more trouble than it is worth to my
computer setup at the moment. (you know Viking can detect hacked Hus
software if you try to log in using a cracked version of 3D, yes?).
I have ES's, no security worries there. Just how I like it...
Ok. Frightening you is not helping you. :-)
I went here --
http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/ko/6953_3522.htm
The info pertains to a previous version of Viking software, but the
outcome is still the same. Prolly worse now, they prolly want your
firstborn as security.... jus' kiddin'.... :->
And from the little I know from friends who have one, you have to be a
registered user and you have to log in with registered software.
Registered software = registered Hasp/dongle.
It's the "Smart Update" feature, run via your software.
Tis prolly the reason why there are no hacked versions of *D software
after 3D.
I know of one person who was sent a please explain email directly from
Husqvarna when Smart Updates was invoked and the website detected the
pirate software (hasp fix). Prolly not the smartest thing to do....
And, if loading a registered version of the software in a computer
that had the cracked version in it, you HAVE to strip out all signs of
it in regedit.
Never mind the fact that the previous owner has already (I presume)
registered the machine in their name at the site (you have to
register). So details pertaining to that machine are already logged
and it may still refuse you entry.
You may be "stuck" with your machine at the updates it has on it
already and can go no further if you can't source the owner's software
that came with it.
The seller was neglectful in not telling you that.
Viking have this sewn up like you wouldn't believe in the copyright
stakes. You call them on your computer, they know exactly where you
are calling from.
It came with the cables to connect to the computer?? Yes??
But no software?? That's just odd... The seller would have to know you
need both.
They didn't want to part with the software because they were still
using it?? They broke the CD?? (Tell me you haven't been stupped with
a hot machine :-< ).
The only thing I can think of is do you know someone with an SE and
could get them to download the updates to CD??
I have a friend here who has to download the update to CD cos power
failure is common and She can't stay connected long enough to cope
with the long update installation. (Power failure during an install is
a big PITA as your machine gets wiped and reloaded with each new
install). You get a power failure halfway through an install and poof!
- gone! A trip to the Hus Tech....
So She downloads the whole update to CD and runs it later.
That's an option, as long as you got the USB hookup from computer to
machine. Have you got a friend with an SE?? They could download the
update and burn it to CD for you. The update is not registered, just
the logging in part is.
No friends with one?? March into your nearest Hus shop, look suitably
afronted (!) and ask for the update on a CD because you are on dialup
and can't stay connected long enough to get it!
This will take guts, cos they may ask questions..... mehehee. A small
cost may be incurred.
I would not mention Usenet... ! No, I wouldn't at all....
Sorry I can't be more help.
If you can't get hold of the registered software from the seller, you
need to get friendly with someone with the same machine and get the
updates onto CD from them.
Hope this works out for you. Somehow.
