I do not have my graphical needle and thread with me Scott
so I am not tooled up to help you with the digi request.
A few lines on what might help you see a way forward with
your question though?
Which was "Is there an easier/better program for digitizing?".
After being where you are today nearly five years ago I can tell
you there is a huge 'lump' in the learning curve for digi.
It took me nearly three years in this group to figure a way
over that lump. This was not just because I am not overly bright.
The lack of "beginner info" and the FoL which says "we do not cherish that which
has not cost us longing, labour and love" are contributing factors to the
challenge in no small way, at all.
Today I am capable of "digitising like a Pro" - not my words - getting there
a long and winding road with loads of fun and some pain along the way.
Lost "friends", shitty software, clueless on fabric construction and
being a male... owning a completely askew view on "womans crafts" with all that
that means to a woman. One clue? Woman do not produce, they "love", protecting
that love as fiercely as they will with as equal vigour and earnst as the
greenie strapping themselves to the tree in the face of the looming bulldozer!
When you get over learning and fully understanding how the digi software works
you will discover the lump in front of you, large.
That hurdle is not a sewing one as such, it is artistry.
Digi is all about graphics. Produce great graphics and the digi process is
just a piece of cake, really. Well, I qualify that statement by saying "if you
know fabrics". Where one is not a sewer or clueless on handling fabric then
the best you can hope to achieve is "test before sewing to finish material",
something that is not always possible in some design projects.
There is why many who digitise will not share the knowledge, call it "pride in
their craft". I was led in by a member here, now deceased. In his own way he
forced me to accept challenges and move at my own pace. Unfortunately the brave
man thought he could move on slowly forever and thus he was called long before I
was complete.. leaving me in a hiatus. I got over that too.
Like myself and I guess many thousands of others... if you want it bad enough
you will work through the hurdles gaining a skill that will be of constant use
and fulfilling when you see a sewout complete.
At least, I hope so :-)

And there is where you start, Scott. Go look at what is available on sites and
check the specs. You will then know what "standard" is.
Good Luck on your journey.
