Yours seems to have been resized over the years. The original does not
fit in a 4x4 hoop and details in the eyes have been lost in yours.

Nope. Many digitisers are taking this "rustic" applique approach.
It creates a "soft edge" around the animal, giving the applique a life
like quality.
This design looks fabulous with a soft cord or non fraying fuzzy
fabric used underneath. Or, just sew it straight onto a soft blankie
for your favourite pug.
