The content of what you posted is fine. Making things smaller is nice,
but not necessary. Some people have re-created large pdfs but have lost
content or clarity while doing so.
SOME people have posted things like design sets that include three or
four nested duplicated sets; zips within folders within rars within
zips, etc.
The reason that your RAR looks (and is) slightly different has to do
with the version of RAR being used. Other versions (I forget which came
first) create multi-part rars in the form xxx.rar for the first part and
xxx.r01, xxx.r02, etc. for subsequent parts. You created a multi-part
RAR with a single rar size of 35MB. Some people use a much smaller size,
resulting in more parts, while others don't use multi-part rars at all,
relying on their posting software to split the file into appropriate sizes.
Advantages of smaller parts include that they are more easily
replaced/reposted and, for those in areas with lower bandwidths or lower
reliability internet connections, complete pieces can be obtained one at
a time. The advantage of larger parts, or monolithic files is that
they're easier to deal with. Good for receivers with high bandwidth and
high reliability - possibly impossible for others.
An incidental advantage of very small rar parts is that some small
included files (such as designs)CAN USUALLY be extracted even if other
parts are unavailable. Note that this CANNOT be done with Zip files, no
matter how they are created. Zip files are all or nothing.
Wow - I've really rambled here. Hope I didn't confuse things too much!
