The actor was an eyetie though, genuine one. I remember seeing the movie
and later did some work on a small theatre production.
Being "foreign" was a prime requirement of that role.. I doubt anyone but a "new
Australian" could have carried it off..! Especially in the light of Bazzas
attempt at an Ocker in London, which for me was a total flop!
Crocker pandered to what the pommies wanted to see, not how we are, were...
then.
IMO... Gibson and Hogan made that same mistake in America.
Jack Thomson - as a contrast - got it completely right in "Sunday too far away"
as did many other Aussie actors of that genre.
Of course very few "made it" in America or anywhere else then as "subtitles"
required a reading speed that just killed the audience.. a pity really.
Interesting how today we who watch SBS have little trouble "getting it"
when watching LOTE movies/advertisements and interviews, complete with subtitles
often generated by an LOTE engine..???
Strange world....

yeh .. well,.. working a thread (subject) with an article designation in it has
never been a smart move... buuuut those finer points of thread construction have
been lost in the deluge of cluelessness invading Usenet, post y2K :-/
