You are pointing at a function of Usenet that is known as
"cross posting" (Xpost).
Xposting is not encouraged in ABCP.
To understand why that is you need to progress far from
where you are now.
My version of Agent has a whole section on the topic.. it starts with this;

For ABCP you disable Xpost checking.. your header retrievals will speed up.

Weeell.. not quite, as the record shows that after Ver3.00
Agent itself has many "bugs" which create more problems
then the upgrades after V3.00 brought as "new features".
Of course solving these keep many entertained over in the
agent support froup.
Ver 2.652 (from memory) is the _last_ newb friendly version.
There is why it is included in the tutorials.
The reasoning *is* that simple, the idiots you are cuddling up
with will tell you different. The joke is, one of them is
using it.. and the exact copy from the tutorials.
Ask yourself why that is.. IF you can stretch that far.
